About Us

Continued from front page..

While the audio landscape is littered with publications which fall over one another to be the first to tell you about the equipment which you can't afford, we are devoted to digging out those "sleepers", the unsung heroes of the audio world which provide the highest sound quality per dollar ratio. We don't shy away from higher-priced equipment, but we first must be convinced that its pricing has a relationship to product value, and doesn't just reflect a large advertising budget or the out-of-control overhead costs of a poorly run company. For almost a quarter-century, we have been bucking the audio establishment in our quest to show anyone who will listen that the price of a product doesn't necessarily have a direct relationship to its sonic quality. If you purchase audio equipment as a means of enjoying music, and want to maximize your buying power, we are the magazine for you.

Our reviewers are music-loving hobbyists who review audio equipment because they love it. They are not involved in the audio industry and its politics. Also, we totally insulate them from manufacturers to allow them full independence in their reporting. We don't allow our reviewers to participate in the coziness which seems to be standard operating procedure elsewhere.

We have been publishing for 25 years and we know what we are doing. We are the oldest and largest audio publication still operating under original ownership. We are also the only audio publication that specializes in passing along pricing and markup trend information along with all the inside industry dope that we can dig up. We are literally the only audio equipment review publication in the world that rates products on the basis of sound quality instead of a list-price hierarchy. In a time when our competitors change their opinion on "what's best" every 60 days, we can fully stand behind what we printed 10, 15, 20 years ago. Let's face facts: your hearing and the laws of physics and acoustics are fairly stable. Join us in our quest of separating audible fact from audio fantasy...........Welcome!
